Tasmanian Blackwood

LOCATION:
Tasmanian Blackwood is an Australian Hardwood.

GRAIN TEXTURE:
The grain is usually straight. Sometimes it is interlocking producing mild to high fiddleback.

COLOUR:
The heartwood is generally golden brown – darker brown, sometimes with a reddish tint and streaks of red. Sapwood is paler.

Blackbutt

LOCATION:
Blackbutt is an Australian Hardwood.

GRAIN TEXTURE:
Blackbutt has straight to wavy interlocking grain that can produce figured material. The texture can vary from moderately coarse to moderately fine. Gum veins are common.

COLOUR:
The heartwood is pale brown with a faint tinge of pink when freshly cut. Sometimes the sapwood is indistinguishable from the heartwood but usually it is slightly paler in colour.

Spotted Gum

LOCATION:
Spotted Gum is an Australian Hardwood.

GRAIN TEXTURE:
The texture is moderately coarse and variable with gum veins common. The presence of wavy grain can produce an attractive fiddleback figure.

COLOUR:
The heartwood ranges from light brown through to dark red-brown. Sapwood is usually white and up to 50 mm wide.

American Oak

LOCATION:
American Oak is an American Hardwood.

GRAIN TEXTURE:
The grain is usually straight with large ray characteristics of the oaks giving it a silver-grained appearance, especially on the quarter cut surface, while the texture is typically coarse.

COLOUR:
The heartwood colour is variable from pale yellow-brown to mid brown, sometimes with a pinkish tint; the sapwood is almost white and usually distinct from the heartwood.
